US economy and health care
Posted by Stephen Cline on August 9th, 2010The US economy has seen a lot of upheavals due to the passing of the health care bill. Thus has been a sort of godsend to President Obama and since the 1960s, the country has not seen any major reform after the Medicare bill that gave some medical aid to people above 65 years of age. But there were millions of others who were silently disadvantaged and it is these people that Obama wanted to protect. This is the largest constituency of people who had voted for change and for Obama who represented change like nothing else. So when the healthcare bill came up for vote, it was as if millions of people were rooting for him.
Before the health care bill, it seemed as if approval ratings of Obama were getting muted and reduced by the day, as many of the promises seemed to be getting delayed in being fulfilled. But it seems opposition to the bill is also increasing. Around 14 elected reps have said that they have got threatening calls with one person even alleging that the caller said that her kids would be killed. There are so many others who are skeptical about the effect on the US economy of this bill, given the exceptionally bleak circumstances that exist right now.
