The US economy is increasing the number of jobs on offer according to Obama
Posted by Stephen Cline on April 4th, 2010President Obama has said that the US economy has started to produce a number of jobs. This is in the backdrop of the latest labor report which says that the economy has produced as many as 162,000 jobs in the month of March. This is the highest in the last 3 years, no less. It seems the US economy is gaining in confidence and Obama is clearly happy about this. But he also sounds a bit of caution because there is nothing that can be said about the US economy with any sense of finality and certainly not on the basis of a single months labor department figures. It is certainly not quick and easy, because there is a limit to what the government can do and accomplish in terms of reverse the toll of the recession in a single sweep.
It is said that the US economy needed to create at least 140,000 jobs per month to match the rate of the growth of the labor force. This is quite a tall order and this means that if so many jobs are not created the unemployment rate would keep on rising above the current level of 9.7% or so that it seems to be stick in for so long now. Things are not as rosy though, as Obama and team want us to believe and you need to wait and watch.
