It is the US economy and not health care that matters most to Americans

A poll of Americans has indicated that people are more worked up about the US economy and employment rather than the prospect of the impact of health care legislation. There are many Republicans who are mighty angry with Obama for pushing through the health care bill. These people want to have voters express their opinion on the health care bill during elections so that the Democrats can face a drubbing. This seems rather unlikely given the fact that for most Americans it is the US economy that matters most, it is the fact that unemployment hovers at around 9.7% that rankles to the greatest extent to the average man on the street. This is the single largest issue that could work in favor of the Republicans and not the fact that the health care bill was passed. More than 53% of Americans polled said that unemployment was highest priority while only 13% had said that health care was top priority.
For all of Obama’s claims and efforts, if the unemployment figures go down to around 8%, then people would be much happier than now, as that would be a figure to talk about. Any more unemployment than that could be less of a talking point for Americans.
