These days there are plenty of college students in a mass panic as they enroll for their freshman year. While many had hoped the United States would be well out of the recession by now, there is a clear picture that the country may not get out for some time down the road. In this situation there is an increased pressure on students to think about their career in terms of what will be recession proof upon graduation. While no student can see thirty years down the road, they have to see into the few years after they graduate.

One of the fields that continues to hold up well in times of crisis is the medical field. Finding not just job in the field, but a specialty continues to provide sound and steady employment. There are number of jobs on the nursing side that can help. These fields require a degree but the upside to them is that they are allowed to pick from a variety of areas.

Beyond the medical field there are a number of jobs in the online sector that continue to grow. As computers continue to be a bigger and bigger part of our lives there are number of jobs that cater to the needs of the people without being affected by the recession. One of those is that of networking systems. These days computers all operate on the same cloud in businesses, so hooking them all together and outfitting them with the right software and specifications is big money. It may not be for everyone but it could be the right fit for some.

Is it possible that too much education is a bad thing? It might seem that way. These days there has been an increased premium on the amount of education a person has. What was once a job that could be had with a high school diploma is now a job that can be had with only a college education. Many people are going back to school to get their degrees and their secondary degrees as well. Not only is this endeavor costing them money, but it is starting to cost them jobs.

The reality of the economic situation is that there are a number of companies that are trying to cut back on the amount of money they are spending. One of the ways they have been doing this is through hiring people that won’t cost them more than is necessary. Those with a second degree, or a graduate degree, often require more money than the normal college graduate. Now companies are rethinking whether it’s in the best interest to hire these more expensive workers. It turns out that they may not be worth hiring.

This is the reason why many graduates are waiting to go to grad school until they can do it with a company that will pay for it. Not only is that the most cost effective way to do it, but it’s also the most reassuring. By going with a company that is supportive of further education it feels like there is reason to believe that they will have job security. This is a big point because no education is worth getting if it prevents someone from getting a job.

While there has been much dark to the recession in regards to the United States economy, there has been some positives too. One of these is with the operations of business. While the constant tightening of the belt is seen as a negative, it’s anything but. These days the companies that were having problems before are learning from their mistakes. While it might seem ugly now, it’s going to benefit the people in the long run.

Many times when a company falls on hard times they cut costs and wait for it to be over. Once the recession is over they begin to go on a spending spree as the money starts rolling in. However, these companies are not starting to spend more even though the economy is slowly turning itself around. It’s one of the nicer things to see. Sure, there are employees who are upset that they are not seeing an increase in jobs, but it’s just an inflated job market that would only correct itself once all was said and done.

Another thing to consider is that there are a number of companies who have cut traveling expenses for employees. These sorts of discretionary spending was the kind of things that led to layoffs in the first place. It was cutting employees before travel and luxuries. Now they are keeping the luxuries to a minimum and they are able to keep the jobs that employees so richly deserve.

It seems as if businesses are being greedy, but the truth is that they are just doing what they have to so they aren’t in this mess again. It will take getting used to, but everyone is better off for it.

Does a six figure salary sound nice? Do you dream of making more money and having a satisfying career? If so, you’re in luck! With the proper training, there are fields that pay well and are predicted to be hiring over the next decade. You may be surprised at some of the high-paying, in-demand careers that make this list.

1. Chief executives.

Yes, a chief executive with a big (or even small) company earns a pretty hefty paycheck. Some executives at top firms, like financial firms, early as much as $70 million a year. That includes their salary, stock options, and personal expenses paid by the company. Not too shabby for running a company, right?

2. Marketing executive.

A marketing job will also earn you big bucks. But not just any marketing job. You need to land a marketing position where you are making decisions and running a department. Marketing is the division that usually brings money into the company, so a lot of money in terms of salary is usually spent there.

3. Air traffic controller.

People often think about pilots when they think about a career in aviation, but air traffic controllers actually make a good living as well. In fact, air traffic controllers are currently in high demand. And when there’s a demand, the pay often increases.

4. Engineers.

Engineers in just about any field will earn a decent paycheck. In fact, some of the highest paying checks right out of school come from the engineering field.

5. Professionals.

Choose a career like dentist, doctor, and lawyer to bring in the six figures – or more. Remember, with those bigger paychecks usually comes many years in school and higher student loans as well. So, while a professional may be bringing in a lot of money, much of that money in the early years goes to paying off student loan debt.

6. Information system manager.

A job in any computer field, especially information system managers, earn a good pay check. This is because most companies now days are completely dependent on technology and computers. When the website goes down, so does the company, so it’s vital to pay someone good money in order to keep the technology working correctly- becoming familiar with things like VMware, RAID, new technologies such as a 7 inch andoid tablet (as clients or teams may be using these for out of office work with cloud services) and more would be beneficial.

7. Anesthesiologist.

An anesthesiologist will make a great check, even right out of school. Careers in the healthcare field are in high demand, so choosing to be an anesthesiologist is a stable career choice.

8. Registered nurse.

For less schooling and a big pay check, considering becoming an RN. Again, the healthcare field isn’t expected to slow down in growth anytime soon, so becoming an RN is a great option to making six figures.

CONCLUSION

With the current economic conditions a lot of people may start to wonder about their job security. Already there is a lot of ‘advisers’ telling dissatisfied employees to find a new job before they quit their current one,so I thought it would be a great time to take a look at some of the most recession proof jobs.

Obviously it is different for everyone based on their own circumstances, as one person who is in a job that would be considered high risk in relation to recessions may successfully keep his job, while others who hold one of the 10 positions below may find themselves out of work.

But here are my picks for the top recession proof jobs.

The Top 10 Recession Proof Jobs

Nursing
Even during economic hardship life goes on. People get injured. people get pregnant. There are still accidents and all the other reasons people visit hospitals.

Accounting
Just because times are getting tougher doesn’t mean that people don’t need accountants. The increase in demand for accountants can be blamed on tougher accounting and auditing regulations, making this one of the most recession proof jobs.

Education
Kid’s need to be taught no matter what is going on with the economy, so teachers are also quite safe when it comes to job security. However location may play a part in where the jobs are located.

Software Design & Development
According to the US Department of Labour, software design and development industry is set to be one of the fastest growing jobs through to 2016!

Administration Assistants
As living expenses increase, it is getting harder to live on less. Which is why there is always a need for administration assistants. As current administration assistants retire or move onto higher paid jobs they need to be replace.

Green Jobs
Until we counteract the effects that we have had on the earth there will be a need for environmental scientists and other ‘green jobs’ to tackle problems such as global warming.

Police
Crime doesn’t stop as times get harder. In fact it usually gets worse. There will always be a need for police officers.

Security

Just like with the police, but as more people become unemployed crime increases which is why business’ will look at hiring more security staff to monitor their business premises.

Aged Care
Our aging population will need a lot of support and this will not change even during economic hardship.

Funeral Services
The sad fact of life is that people die. It doesn’t matter whether its the middle of a boom or recession, there will always be a need for funeral services – especially with the aging population.

After a bit of research and nice little brain storming session that is the top 10 recession proof jobs that I could think of.

If you can think or anything else, or just have a comment on this post I’d love to hear your thoughts. So please leave a comment below!
